International Benchmark Study (InBenBio)
The international benchmark study InBenBio aims to systematically identify and analyze the latest developments and activities in the field of biointelligence worldwide, to compare them with the prevailing conditions in Germany and to evaluate innovative technologies and processes in international workshops. By means of structured sets of criteria and interviews with national and international experts, country-specific benchmarks for all activities in the field of biointelligence are established, current lead countries identified, and the market volume of dominant biointelligent technologies determined.
The results of the project provide valuable insights regarding the strategic orientation of German research and industry in the context of biointelligence. They shed light on the role of German industries in comparison to global competition and show political and societal scope for action to become a lead market and leading supplier of biointelligent technologies in the future. Since companies will have to develop new technologies and business models to meet the growing demands of customers and society in the future, the study is important for decision-makers from industry and research who are dealing with the value creation of tomorrow.
The Department of Innovation Economics at the University of Hohenheim, the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation IPA, the Institute of Bioprocess Engineering at the University of Stuttgart, McKinsey & Company Inc. and VDMA Services GmbH are working together in this interdisciplinary project. The study is supported by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) and is intended to form the basis for an internationally networked research and value creation landscape.
Project Duration: 15.11.2022-31.03.2024
